After years on the racing circuit, Romer captured the Helvetica 500 cup and a sponsorship. Romer now burns up the track for Chop Shop, a new Manhattan type foundry with a small but promising selection of fonts to choose from (see Chop Shop - due up by 8/11/97). Romer graduated from The Cooper Union School of Art in 1992, but stuck around for the next four years to work at Cooper Union's Center for Design and Typography. There, Romer was responsible for much of the institution's printed design, including catalogs, signage, exhibition and various other materials and publications. In addition to designing, Romer taught as an adjunct faculty member at the Cooper Union for two years and is occasionally an instructor for United Digital Artists. These days, Romer spends most of his time in the Chopping Block Oval Office fulfilling his duties as President (and polishing his lucky coin -- the one with heads on both sides). | |||||||||
